News of the week.

Concert: You are all invited to a Concert in the Club Rooms starring the Village Voices (adult choir) and Local Vocals (childrens’ choir) with surprise guest artists on Friday 22nd June (songs, fun and comedy sketches). Doors open at 7.15pm. Show starts at 7.30pm. The theme is ‘The Grand Ole Opry, the show that made country music famous.   There will be a prize for the best dressed cowboy and cowgirl in the audience on the night. All proceeds to the local St. Vincent de Paul Society. Free in and donations on the way out.

Fundraiser:

The members of Castlegregory ICA Guild and their friends are holding a coffee morning in aid of Fenit Lifeboat Services on Saturday 30th June, from 10am to 1pm, in the large Clubrooms. Come along with your friends and enjoy some refreshments, while supporting a very worthwhile cause. Keep safe in the water this summer.

Lending Library:

Do you have any books lying around which you could donate to our lending Library here in the Clubrooms, please feel free to drop them in to the office and we will go through them to check they are suitable…..in other words no “50 Shades of ……anything unsuitable” please. Some childrens books would be great also.

Castlegregory Country Market is in full swing along with the Art Market every Sunday 10am-1.30pm.

Bridge is back- Mondays in the Club Rooms at 7.45pm. All are welcome. If you are a real beginner come at 7pm and we’ll try to give you a hand

Notice: Upcoming elections for the Community council will be taking place in June with new members starting end of August. Stradbally, Maharees, Aughacasla and the Village are eligible to have 5 members per area to sit on the Council.    Some active board members have served the maximum elected term allowed so it is critical that new representation step forward. This is an excellent opportunity for your voice to be heard and positively impact the future of our community.

Summer Festival: Dates for the Summer Festival: Friday-Sunday, July 13th, 14th and 15th

Calling all Artists and Photographers! On 21st and 22nd July there will be a Maritime Festival in the Clubrooms at Castlegregory. We are looking for submissions. Ocean theme. No entry fee but 10% commission on sold works. Must be ready for hanging and labelled with price, title, medium and your name on the back. Drop off date from Sunday 15th July to Thursday 19th July. The Defibrillator has been moved from Maurice Fitzgeralds Pub and put in a box outside the doors of Spar.

The Community Alert Group: Pendant alarms have been successfully installed for several residents in the community, who are happy with the results. The alarms provide a good measure of security. We are still submitting applications. If you are over 65 and even if you have an alarm that is no longer working you can apply. Please contact the Office: 066 7139422

Active Retired Summer Schedule: Every Tuesday 1-4pm Clubrooms-Soup and dessert- Entertainment. Everyone is welcome!

Castlegregory GAA Membership is now due for 2018. Cost €30 for non playing single member and €50 for a couple and can be paid to any committee member.

Old Fire Station is now open as a gym for new members. For more information contact Colm Sills or Seán Spillane on 087 2572662.

Soccer Notes: Castle are away V Listowel Celtic B in the last league game of the season. A win would see us potentially in a playoff V Asdee Rovers for promotion so all to play for. Kick off in Listowel is 11:30am

The Brandon Bay HM/10k event: we are now just over 3 weeks away from this year's Brandon Bay event. Entries online are far ahead of previous years and with a usual surge closer to the date it's looking like the biggest one yet. If you haven't registered yet you can do so online on www.brandonbayhalfmarathon.com where you will also be able to select your t-shirt size. Alternatively, our walk in registration evening will take place on Friday 13th July in the club rooms. As always we encourage all local businesses to share the event on social media. To date there are participants registered and coming from all over the UK, the USA, Poland, Luxembourg, France, Germany and even China plus of course from all over Ireland, meaning it will certainly be an international Day of walking, jogging and running on the beach on Saturday 14th July!
